On This Day 40 Years Ago – Thousands of black school kids demand a high quality education in their own language!

On 16th June 1976 in Soweto, South Africa, thousands of black school children took to the streets in a column more than half a mile long to protest about the inferior quality of their education and to demand the right to be taught in their own language: From  1991 onward the 16th June became the International Day of the African Child.
